Global DCM deal and revenue platform
In detail
HSBC · October 2014 to September 2016 · Senior Project Manager, Debt Capital Markets (consultant)
One technology platform for the Syndicate and MTN desks worldwide, replacing a patchwork of systems for deal capture, revenue reconciliation and management information.
Scale: 4 critical front-office applications · budget $1.7m · 5 FTE · 10 months for the revenue tracker
The challenge
Debt Capital Markets ran four critical front-office applications, from pricing and blotters to MI reporting, with separate deal-capture processes in each region. The MTN and bond-issuance application was unstable and audit-exposed, reporting cycles were slow and the architecture cost more than the business needed.
What I did
Captured global requirements through regional business analysts and completed a gap analysis with offshore technical teams to set a realistic scope.
Prepared the cost-benefit analysis that secured buy-in from individual business managers, then delivered desk by desk.
Resurrected the critical application used to manage new MTN and bond issuance for the origination desk, delivering a stable, audit-compliant global platform.
Delivered the green-field global DCM deal and revenue capture, reconciliation and reporting platform, globalising the Syndicate and MTN desks onto one system.
Tracked and reported portfolio financials to the COO, business change owner and origination desk every two weeks.
Outcome
$1.6m in licence cost saved and operational and reputational risk significantly reduced.
20% FTE saved through the automated platform globalisation.
Fewer systems, simpler IT architecture and shorter reporting cycles.
