In detail

JPMorgan · 2005 to 2012 · Project Manager, Rates Sales and Marketing Technology

A service-oriented reference-data layer for the whole Rates marketing application stack, replacing copies of the same data in every system.

Scale: budget $0.5m · 4 FTE · 6 months

The challenge

Common economic reference data lived separately in each application, causing STP errors downstream. Synchronising it was slow and complex, every system used different naming, and each team had to fund its own share of the change and agree on data ownership.

What I did

  • Identified all reference data in use with the technical teams and produced a gap analysis of mismatches.

  • Ran weekly sessions with middle-office and business managers to agree conventions.

  • Planned the migration by complexity of change and managed the technical benchmarking of the services framework.

Outcome

  • 70% of reference data centralised within the agreed timeline.

  • Processing exceptions down 10% and IT release cost down 15%; middle office made guardians of reference-data changes.

Skills: Data governance · SOA · Cross-team negotiation
